Once she was out from under the spell of her abuser, it was like she was waking up and facing the world for the first time. It was like you evolved with Quincey, coming to accept what had happened, how it was wrong and everything she had been told was untrue. But she was different to Tijan’s past heroines because the reader came to realise the extent of the trauma she had faced all her life in real time with her. Quincey was a tough heroine to get a read on to begin with as her characters is almost the enemy at the beginning and you lean towards dislike because she wants to keep Nate from his daughter.

His relationship with Mason and Logan was a good as ever, their bond is so special, even as adults, and I loved how he was with his sister Aspen and Blaise too. Whilst his attraction to her was there from the start, his love for her snuck up on him.

Nate’s love only really went to his friends, his sister, and his daughter, but Quincey slipped under his radar. But Quincey came as almost a package deal with Nova, and Nate accepted that, learning quickly that she too would do whatever it took to keep Nova safe and happy. He had cared for Valerie, but they weren’t in love, and because of his past he had a hard time letting anyone in. He was kind of coasting through life with no real purpose as all of his friends and family settled down around him and Nova was the piece of his heart he didn’t know was missing, and he would stop at nothing to have her under his care. Nate’s character had multiple layers, the broody businessman, the protective father, and the alpha partner, but he is complex in so many other ways you only understand once you’ve been inside his head. But she didn’t count on Nate and all of his family standing strong and fighting back, or for her to start questioning her own life and future. Quincey gave up everything to care for Nova after her sister Valerie did, and now her own father Duke is telling her she needs to make sure Nova remains hers. When a woman comes up to him in a bar, telling him he’s a father and asks him to sign his rights away there and then, his whole world is turned upside down, and he knows he’s about to have the fight of his life to have the little girl in his life. Nate is living his bachelor life, travelling the country for work, but when he arrives in Seattle, he begins to feel a bit restless. Nate had intrigued me since reading Fallen Crest in 2014, so I knew his book was going to be a good one, and I was right. You’ve had hints of these characters in the Crew series, but seeing Nate, Mason, Logan, and Sam again made me so happy, it felt like I was returning home to old friends. I adore her standalones, but I didn’t quite realise how happy I would be returning to the Fallen Crest world so fully as you do in Nate. Tijan’s books are some of my favourites, and I will say it time and time again.
